Hiya guys. Hope the last McCluskies went well, couldn't make it myself, I was at Caister.
Enjoyed your crossword on the Interactive page, it was too tempting to resist & caught me out on 3 or 4 answers - that will teach me for thinking it was going to be easy!!!
Anyway, looking forward to the June ST - see you there.

Hi - When is the next soultrain - I'm confused
A fan of your event we know says it's the 20th June.
The website says the 23rd June and the monitors on the 5th May gig say it is either the 1st or 2nd of June
as we're all confused - please help so we can arrange to commute from our various places around the country to catch your train!
Good luck - all the best - Chris
08 May 2002 - Isle of Man, British Isles

Soultrain comments: -  Sorry about the confusion.
The next Soultrain is June 2nd.

Hi guys - thanks for letting me DJ - had a great time. Hope you enjoyed it - for the most part it was the Modern end of Northern that I played, 'cos this is what I sensed would go down best. The 60's 'anthems' are a bit played out and I couldn't go down the 'rare'route. The 70's onwards stuff fits in nicely.
Reaction I got during and after was positive, hope yours was too.

Please keep us informed of the gigs that you hold in Bristol and surrounding areas. We came to the last two gigs in McCluskys and thought it was brilliant. Its been a long time since we went to a Jazz funk do. The last one was very early 80's at Westfield, Radstock. We had the pleasure of dancing with Oscar back then. He still has a smile on his face. We saw him at the last gig but didn't get to see him dance. He disappeared through the crowd before I could get to him. Are very much looking forward to the next one on 27th August. See you there. Shelley Rees-Langley and hubby.

It was good to see all the 40 year old teenagers singing and dancing along
to all the old Fatback fav's. Judging by the response to 'I found lovin' it
seemed more people remembered and enjoyed their biggest song of the 80's
than the stuff of their haydays of the 70's. Never the less they did not let
crowd down with their classic hits, although the vocals were hard to pick up
above the sound of the music. Considering these guys must be in their 50's,
with the exception of the brilliant Sax player and the backing vocalist,
they played with the enthusiasm that belittled their ageing years.
It was truly amazing to see the trumpet player taking photos of the crowd
enjoying him and his fellow Fatbacks return to the wonderful 70's/80's. If
you shut your eyes for one second, you could have been.

The Fatbacks duly arrived amongst great expectation in the Bristol public. The Soul Train crew have worked tirelessly in promoting this event. There certainly were some major plusses and the people involved should be hugely congratulated for what they achieved. Personally I wasn't too impressed with the performance but hey that's me. For me the positives were as follows: -
the band was tight and well drilled (which I guess after all these years they should be). For me they held the show on the basis of this tightness, the rhythm and the familiarity of the material.
The extended show gave value for money, they must have performed for about an hour and a half.
The venue was good and it probably helped having this in the adopted home of Soul Train.
The up for it crowd of 400 was very enthusiastic and this was conveyed to the band and if they were in any way tired or reluctant then this was soon forgotten amongst such adulation.
Every one seemed to enjoy it so who am I to criticise. I always feel deflated when so many people have a great time and I come out feeling something less than euphoric.
The familiarity and to an extent timelessness of their material. The slower stuff like 'Keep on Stepping' was particularly good.
It was good to see the band after all this time. Last saw them in the 70's!
