About Al:
Al started DJing back in 1979 at The Turntable Club playing Soul, Funk, Disco and Reggae. he later played small venues after that. Al was inspired by the music at The Guildhall Tavern and Assize Court pubs and DJs like Seymour. Eventually like most of us he got married and settled down, had a family and stopped DJing.
"I thought I would leave it to the younger ones but they had no feel for the music we all loved and went to a couple of the early Soultrain events with Nick Tuchband. At one of these nights we got inspired to start The Funk Mob a sort of Soultrain spin off, but focusing more on heavy funk and jazz. Had a good spot at The Cellar Cafe on Stokes Croft. Sadly Nick fell ill and later died of Cancer. Decided to pack in The Funk Mob but at a special tribute night to Nick at McCluskys people told me to keep going. I Reformed the Funk Mob with Phil Small and got invited by Paul Alexander and Steve Ashby to play in room 2 at various Soultrain events and have been part of the Soultrain Family ever since. Have been appearing on The Soultrain show on Bristol's Star Radio as co presenter and at live Soultrain events. Occassionally do a Funk Mob event in memory of our dear and sadly missed funk brother, Nick T." Al B
